NYC 2024 骄傲日体验
My NYC Pride 2024 Experience
In the picture, I was standing in the middle of the group of people that’s been holding the NYU Pride banner. I love how I was raising my arm high holding a rainbow flag, while having the One WTC building in the back.
Starting Out
The march gathering is supposed to be 12pm, but according to my friend Theo, who has the NYC Pride experience last year, told me to come two hours late. So I set out from my place at around 12:30, got there and maneuvered our way in the parade block without getting a wrist band(Of course the reason I didn’t have it is because I was too late to meet up with NYU group thanks to Theo’s bad advice!) But anyways I got in smoothly!!
It was the moment that I was marching in the middle of the fifth avenue, and celebrated by every body else watching us. I don’t have to be brave to show myself at this moment, I am just myself! Under the sunlight, the people outside of the barricades are waving rainbow flags, there were the youths, older generations and children. I remembered a mid-aged lady holding a sign saying “If your mom doesn’t accept you for who you are, I’ll be your mom!” I feel so loved and supported at that moment. The whole parade experience is not only fun and exciting for me, it is also so educational and therapeutic, some experience I’ve never had in my past 23 years life.
After passing the famous Stonewall Inn, we took a group photo in front of the site where historical event happened that started the revolution. I was lucky enough to be feature in the photo and happened to be in the center of the photo hahaha! So happy and proud about this!
The journey
We started from the intersection of the Broadway and 26th street, and then go south all the way down to Christopher Street where the Stonewall Inn is located. Then we made a turn to end our march on 15th street, 7th Avenue. I weren’t able to count how many wonderful people and waving hands we saw on our way, and how many beautiful things that happened(Bunch of guys spraying out confetti on his balcony right next to the sign “Our love will not be defined by fools or felons.”)
